Former Wild Draft Pick Kyle Medvec Headed To Austria

This summer the Minnesota Wild decided not to offer 6-foot-6, 227 pound defenseman Kyle Medvec a new contract. Today it was announced that he’s not moving into another NHL frachise, as he has signed a one-year contract with Olimpija Ljubljana in the Austrian league.

Medvec was drafted by the Wild in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2006 draft. The Burnsville, MN-native was drafted following a his second season with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. Following that he played the full four seasons in the NCAA for the University of Vermont, then turned pro in the 2011-12 season, playing 56 games with the Houston Aeros.

Now 26, Medvec never made his NHL debut and spent his entire pro career within the Wild system, playing for Houston/Iowa and the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL.

Over the course of three AHL seasons he suited up for 181 games, registering 11 goals, 10 assists, and 171 penalty minutes.
