Carson McMillan Heads to Toronto on a Tryout

A little late on this update with camp opening, but a quick note on former Minnesota Wild winger Carson McMillan. This summer the Wild’s 2007 7th round draft pick (#200 overall) became an unrestricted free agent and the Wild decided not to extend an offer on a new contract.

McMillan is now on a professional tryout (PTO) with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

McMillan, from the 2010-11 season through the 2013-14 season, played 16 games with the Wild, totaling two goals, three assists, a plus-2 rating, and 11 penalty minutes. He only managed to crack the Wild’s NHL lineup for a single game last season and spent most of his time with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL). McMillan played 68 games for Iowa, scoring 12 goals and 16 assists last year.

Iowa, as we’ve mentioned a number of times, was pretty terrible last season, finishing dead last in the Western Conference. The organization looked to rebuild that team with some new prospects making the leap to pros, free agents, and undrafted free agents the team is taking a gamble on. McMillan, like Tyler Cuma, Jake Dowell, Steven Kampfer, and Josh Caron, was not a part of the restructuring plans for Iowa.
