After missing 13 games due to a surgically repaired wrist fracture, Mikael Granlund will return to the line up for the Minnesota Wild tonight when they visit the struggling Edmonton Oilers.

The Minnesota Wild get their top-line center back tonight, when youngster Mikael Granlund suits up for the first time since December 27th, 2014. You may recall Granlund scored a first period goal and played 14:27 against the Winnipeg Jets before leaving. The Wild announced that he had surgical fixation of his wrist the next day. The Wild will be happy to see the speedy Finnish forward back in the line-up given its lack of depth down the middle.

  • Mikael Granlund is having a disappointing season, posting 15 points (4G-11A) through 32 games this season, though his 54% corsi for is respectable, good for 2nd among centers on the team. Mikko Koivu ranks first at 56%, if you can believe it.

Originally drafted in the 1st round, 9th overall in the 2010 NHL entry draft, Granlund has yet to play a full season in the NHL, missing time due to concussions and other injuries. You may recall Granlund missing nearly a month in November December 2013 after taking a nasty check to the head courtesy of Nazem Kadri.

After bursting on to the scene with 4 goals and 3 assists through 13 playoff games in 2013-2014, Mikael Granlund needs to improve his game if he hopes to cash in when he becomes a restricted free agent this May.
