Wild Pick Up One Point In SO Loss To Stars
The good news is that the Wild still have sole possession of a playoff spot. The bad news is that the Dallas Stars just got a point closer to taking that spot for themselves. Even an early PP courtesy of perennial pest Steve Ott couldn’t get the Wild an easy goal tonight. Everything they got, they worked for. Although I’m firmly against trying to spin losses as moral victories, the effort from the boys tonight at the start of the game was not that bad. The speed and energy level left much to be desired as the game went on, [...]
Wild trade rumors and the future of the franchise.
There is a lot of trade rumors floating around out their concerning the Wild. I am sure all of you have heard about the recent acquisition of Erik Christensen and a 7th round draft pick. And I am sure a lot of you have heard about Marek Zidlicky wanting out of the organization for being a healthy scratch for 3 straight games. Mark has covered that sufficiently so all I am going to say is if your not going to believe in the system and play with it the there is the door. But there are rumors about who the [...]
“Crusher” To Center Third Line Against Dallas
Former New York Ranger Erik Christensen is wasting no time changing his wardrobe. He will make his debut in a Wild sweater tomorrow night on the road against Dallas, centering the third line. His line mates will be Darroll Powe and Carson McMillan. Physical center Warren Peters will move to the fourth line, giving them even more banging power. This is definitely a depth move for the Wild, and doesn’t bode well for a timely return of Pierre Marc Bouchard. Bouchard has been a mainstay of the Wild’s power play, but Wild GM Chuck Fletcher singled out Christensen’s stellar shootout [...]
The Minnesota Wild announced Friday that they have made an immediately effective trade of Casey Wellman to the New York Rangers in exchange for Erik Christensen and a seventh-round draft pick. While many Wild fans will be sad to see Wellman go (including me), it’s true that he has not been living up to his potential within the Wild system. Christensen has played under a similar system before during his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and will hopefully adjust very easily to a familiar style of play. Christensen is supposedly on his way to Dallas to meet his new teammates, [...]
Wild Make The Avalanche Slide Further, Backs Is Back
Now that my heart has jumped back out of my throat after the last 90 seconds of the game…more on that in a minute…I can write a happy article! In a battle that carried over into the Twitter-sphere, the Wild once again beat the Colorado Avalanche in Denver. This win was a huge one for the standings, as Colorado has been right on our tail in the conference. With the Wild getting 2 points and the Avs getting zilch, the Wild strengthened their hold on 8th place in the west. More points were given out by the boxing commission than [...]
In Prospect land.
While the NHL and the AHL had their all-star games their where still plenty of hockey games going on showcasing the future of the Wild franchise. So I will do my best and try and get you caught up. Lets start with the NCAA. Both Erik Haula and Jason Zucker where in action this past weekend as the Minnesota Golden Gophers took on St. Cloud State and the Denver Pioneers battled with Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves. Erik Haula had an assist Friday night and a goal on Saturday as the Gophers won both their games by a score of 2-1 and 3-2. [...]
Wild Try To Hold On To 8th Place In The West
Good afternoon State of Hockey! In tonight’s tilt, the Wild will attempt to shutdown the Colorado Avalanche at home once again. No major lineup changes expected. No Waeros (sorry, but it’s my term and I’m using it for as long as we play roster ping-pong) came up or went back down after Tuesday’s devastating loss to the Nashville Predators. Lundin and Staubitz remain scratches along with Marek Zidlicky (gee, such a shock). Mike Yeo said he liked what he saw for 50 minutes on Tuesday night. Let’s hope the team plays 60 tonight. By the numbers, this game is heavily [...]
Wild Prepare For Road Trip After Tough Loss
Today’s a new day, I know. I still woke up angry. After last night’s disheartening loss in the final 3:21 to the Nashville Predators, the Minnesota Wild hit the ice at the Xcel this morning for a fast-paced practice in preparation for tomorrow’s rematch against the Colorado Avalanche. Nothing more can really be said about the loss last night, so we have to look to the future. Team captain Mikko Koivu is on the road trip, but will not be returning against the Avs (he’s along to continue to practice). Rumor has it that he may return next week. Guillaume [...]
