Stephane Veilleux was called up last season to provide a boost of energy for the fourth line. Playing in 34 games for the Iowa Wild before being called up, Veilleux played in 34 games for the Wild scoring 3 goals.

Veilleux has not been a scoring threat since he recorded 13 goals and 10 assists in the 2008-2009 season. Veilleux, however, has defined his game as an energetic back-checker and penalty killer. Veilleux’s style of play always impacts the game more significantly than what the box score shows.

In an interview Michael Russo had with Wild head coach Mike Yeo regarding why Veilleux was scheduled to play in game 7 against Colorado, “Speed, speed on the forecheck, speed to pressure, veteran, penalty kill and bring some jam into the game.”

Although Veilleux averaged only 7 minutes and 18 seconds of ice time in the postseason, his presence was known, and was definitely a frustration for the Avalanche and the Blackhawks.

Now take a look at Stephane Veilleux’s goals from last season.

MIN 4 – WPG 6

Veilleux’s first goal of the season is good looking and comes in the middle of a bad spell for the Wild. Though, even a four goal night did nothing for the Wild in this losing streak.

#3

04/05/14 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
