Wild Agree On Three-Year Deal With Nino Niederreiter
Just days before camp, the Minnesota Wild have announced they have re-signed restricted free agent winger Nino Niederreiter to a three-year deal, the terms of which were not disclosed. However, Michael Russo is citing a source who says the deal is 3 years $8M ($2.66M AAV).
Niederretier came to Minnesota last season after a summer trade with the New York Islanders that sent fan-favorite Cal Clutterbuck to the east coast. Niederreiter thrived last season, scoring 14 goals and 22 assists, including the goal. (The Game 7 OT goal.) He set personal bests in nearly every category and was second on the team in hits with 175. The team and fans expect big things from him this season as he challenges for a top six spot in a suddenly (ok, not that suddenly) crowded top two forward lines in Minnesota.
Niederreiter’s agent, Andre Rufener, quoted in the Star Tribune, said that Nino had a good offer from the KHL, but he was “leaving over a million and a quarter bucks net after taxes on the table playing in Minnesota and not Russia. That’s a lot of money. This guy is a Wild at heart.”
Just a short update right now. We’ll add details as they come out and Alex will have a longer piece on Niederreiter hitting the site tonight.
