Off Season News – Not Much So Far

Not much going on in the State of Hockey beyond wistfully watching the playoffs at the moment.

Some news, though. Niklas Backstrom is undergoing ankle surgery ASAP. It turns out he’s been playing on a bad ankle since December. Ouch.

Wild owner Craig Leipold sat down with Mike Russo and talked about the status and future of the franchise. Takeaways from the interview:

1) Leipold is committed to Chuck Fletcher as GM, and realizes that this next year is when we’ll first see much of Fletcher’s work.

2) The Wild will stick with head coach Mike Yeo. Again, I’ve said it before, Yeo was brought in to coach the 2012-2013 team. This year was just a holding pattern.

3) Yes, the Wild are going after a big fish this summer. Maybe two. They have the money to do it, now they need to convince the fish to take the bait.

Back to playoff world for the moment…down with the Canucks!

PS – Weber deserved a suspension.
