Houston Aeros Pick Up First Win in Route of Stars

The Houston Aeros registered their first regular season victory of the year on Friday night by sternly defeating the Texas Stars, 5-1.  In what was the first of a home and home series, that concludes Saturday night in the Stars home rink, the Aeros controlled the game from the get go, finally breaking through and capitalizing on quality scoring chances.

Playing in front of 5,738 home town fans, the Aeros opened the scoring when Charlie Coyle picked up his second goal of the season.  Marco Scandella would give the home team a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to a power play goal, his first of the season.

The team would skate to a scoreless second period and the Stars would make a game of it early into third thanks to a Alex Chiasson tally.

But nearly five minutes later the Aeros would regain their two goal lead thanks to a David McIntyre snype.  Zack Phillips and Brian Connelly would put the game away with goals coming in the second half of the period, helping the Aeros pick up that elusive first win.

The impressive Matt Hackett picked up the win in goal, turning away 26 of the 27 shots he faced.

Mikael Granlund and Connellly both registered two points in the affair.  The Aeros will try and make it two straight tonight when they take to the road to complete the home and home series with the Stars, before returning home to host the Milwaukee Admirals on Sunday.

The Aeros power play continues to be hot for the club after registering another two goals during the game with the man advantage, finishing the night 2-for-4.
