Wild Prospect Nick Seeler Rumored To Be Heading To The Gophers

Earlier this summer Wild defensive prospect Nick Seeler left the University of Nebraska-Omaha somewhat abruptly (at least from the outside perspective). He was announced to be exiting the program rather late in the summer for “personal reasons.”

This was a surprising move in part because it was too late for him to enroll and play with another NCAA program this coming season. So, if he wished to play in the NCAA for another year or two — the most he could play as he’s used up two years of eligibility — he’d have to take a season in juniors first.

Wild beat writer Michael Russo talked to Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher about the situation in a blog post fro August 14 and even Fletcher sounded surprised that Seeler was leaving the program.

Last week @HammyHockey reported that Seeler may be headed to the University of Minnesota.

A few other sources are reporting that rumor as well now. There’s nothing official, but that’s one way to get Wild fans on your side, playing for the Gophers.

Seeler is an Eden Prairie, MN native and his sister, Kelly Seeler, played defense for the Gophers as well. So the rumor makes a certain amount of sense.

Seeler would be ineligible to play this coming season and would need to play somewhere else before joining the Gophers for his third year of NCAA eligibility in the 2015-16 season.
