Niklas Backstrom’s New Mask Revealed

Not to be outdone by youngster Darcy Kuemper, Niklas Backstrom has a new mask this season.

Some of you may have noticed Niklas Backstrom’s new mask in his limited action this season. Yesterday, we got a closer look at the gorgeous new mask courtesy of the awesome folks at DAVEART. Take a look at the photos, courtesy of their Instagram account

The mask, titled “Wild Instincts” is primarily Forest green with metal flake. The Wild’s iconic primary logo takes up the upper half of the mask, while white trees with the Wild word mark take up the lower sides. Backstrom’s jersey number (32) is painted in bubble script on the chin plate.

I love this new mask. It’s got tons to offer without being exceptionally busy. The Wild logo is super cool and Backstrom’s mask brings it to the forefront.

Gunnarsson’s trademark holographs are hidden within the art of the mask, including the Wild’s alternate circular logo on the sides and along a white stripe that tops the mask. Based in Sweden, Gunnarsson’s work can be found on Kuemper, Henrik Lundqvist, Semyon Varlamov, and Frederik Andersen. Daveart also made special lavender themed masks for Hockey Fights Cancer events through the month of October.
