The Iowa Wild announced Thursday that they have sent goaltender John Curry to the Quad City Mallards and forward Ryan Walters to the Alaska Aces, both ECHL affiliates of the Minnesota Wild.

Curry’s transfer was precipitated by the Minnesota Wild placing goaltender Josh Harding on waivers and sending him to Iowa. Curry has been on Minnesota Wild fans’ radar since he show-stopping performance against the St. Louis Blues last year, his first NHL game since the 2009-10 season.

Curry spent the start of the 2013-14 season in the ECHL as well, with then Minnesota Wild ECHL affiliate, the Orlando Solar Bears. (Wild switched over to the Alaska Aces this summer and the Quad City Mallards moved from the CHL to the ECHL, giving the Wild two ECHL affiliates.)

Curry has played five AHL games this season for Iowa, going 0-4-0 with a 3.72 GAA and a .885 SV%. He has spent the last week plus nursing a lower body injury. At that time the Wild signed netminder Parker Milner to a PTO, but he has since been released.

Walters signed an AHL contract with Iowa in the preseason after being an invitee to the Wild’s Traverse City Prospects Tournament team and the Minnesota Wild’s preseason camp.

Through ten appearances this season Walters, a former Hobey Baker Award finalist, has a goal and five assists.

Iowa plays three-in-three this weekend and Harding is expected to see his first game action since December 2013.
