With Matt Dumba in Iowa now, the Wild have elected to recall rookie defenseman Christian Folin, who scored his first professional last Tuesday.
Folin was sent to Iowa on November 14 and has had some strong play for the baby Wild. In eight games he’s got two goals, two assists, and a plus-1 rating (which is pretty good for a team who has continued to lose as regularly as Iowa has).
Prior to being sent to Iowa, Folin had played in eight games for the (NHL) Wild, over which he averaged 14:10, had eight shots, and no points. The Wild hope that confidence gained at the AHL level will help Folin’s size and offensive skill surface at the NHL level.
With Justin Falk still at the NHL level, this gives the Wild a couple of defensemen who will get scratched (barring any other roster moves) from Wednesday’s game against Montreal that should pit Darcy Kuemper against Carey Price. However, it was reported Tuesday that Ryan Suter missed practice because he’s sick (doesn’t sound like it’s the mumps). The presence of Folin will give the team another d-man in case Suter isn’t able to play.
