Minnesota Wild Recall Brett Sutter

The Minnesota Wild recalled forward Brett Sutter from the Iowa Wild on Monday.

With Ryan Carter being placed on IR today and Matt Cooke still not ready to return, it looks like Sutter will make his Minnesota Wild debut in Chicago on Tuesday.

26 games into the season, Sutter sits fourth on Iowa in scoring with five goals and nine assists. He’s been a key part of the limited success Iowa has had, spending most of his time on the team’s top line alongside Stephane Veilleux.

Over the weekend Iowa had three games, Sutter was named first star in the team’s first game against San Antonio, recording two goals and an assist in the win. They were shutout in their second match against San Antonio, but Sutter grabbed an assist in Sunday night’s 2-1 loss to the Adirondack Flames.

Sutter has 54 career NHL games in the bank at 27 years old, split between the Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes. He’s got two goals, five assists, and 36 penalty minutes in his career.

I’m excited to see how Sutter integrates into the lineup, though I’d love to see Tyler Graovac given a shot at the NHL. It’s a good test for the team as there have only been some light tests of the team’s offensive depth this season, unlike on defense where their depth issues have been exposed. It’s never bad for a team to get a better sense of how far the depth goes before you get toward the final stretch of the season and aren’t entirely sure what you’ve got heading into the playoffs.

Take a listen to Kevin Falness talking to Sutter following Monday’s team practice.
