Iowa Wild Sign Brad Richard, Danny Syvret, Reassign Corbin Baldwin, Colton Jobke, plus Warren Peters!
Lots of signings, recalls, and send downs in Iowa today. That lengthy headline doesn’t even get it all, but I know I got you with that juicy bit about Warren Peters, right? You’ll have to wait for that one though. Or, knowing how reading works, you might guess that it’s at the bottom of this post. But maybe it isn’t. Maybe I hid it in the middle knowing that you’d just be digging for it.
Iowa re-signed veteran defenseman Danny Syvret to a PTO. He’s played 25 games for Iowa this season and has found some success recently, recording a total of two goals and eight assists in his stay. He’s played 584 career AHL games and 54 NHL games split between the Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers, and Anaheim Ducks.
The team also announced that they’ve reassigned defenseman Corbin Baldwin to the Alaska Aces of the ECHL. The 6-foot-5 defender has been up and down a couple times this season, playing four games with the Aces earlier in the season. Through 16 games with Iowa this year he has yet to record a point and has accumulated 16 penalty minutes.
In a corresponding move, the team has recalled Colton Jobke from the Aces. Jobke hasn’t yet played a game with Iowa this season, but did grab 11 games with the team last season and had previously played a pair of games at the AHL level for the Houston Aeros in the 2011-12 season.
In 20 games for the Aces this season, Jobke has four assists, 25 penalty minutes, and a minus-11 rating, the worst plus/minus on the team.
It was also announced shortly before Iowa’s win over the Rockford IceHogs last night that Iowa had signed defenseman Brad Richard from the Aces to a PTO.
Nope, not that Brad Richards. This one is a singular.
Signed as a free agent by the Aces last year, Richard recorded six goals and 24 assists for the Kelly Cup Champions. This season, the small(ish) defenseman has seven goals and five assists through his first 23 games. No word if he’ll be in the lineup for Iowa this weekend, but the team does seem to be in search of a solution with defensive depth.
The Minnesota Wild also recalled John Curry today to replace the sick Darcy Kuemper.
In other Aces news, the team has signed free agent defenseman Brad Gorham. Gorham played three seasons in the NCAA for the University of Alaska Anchorage and finished as the team’s captain. Over the last three seasons he’s played a handful of games for the Aces each year. The 28-year-old defender is listed at 6-foot-1, 196 pounds and has played three games with the Aces earlier this year.
Gorham and Baldwin are both expected suit up for the Aces on Wednesday night.
In other tangentially related news, former Wild forward Warren Peters has found a new team finally. He’s signed a deal with SønderjyskE in Denmark.
It was at the bottom and wasn’t that exciting, but now you know.
