The Minnesota Wild announced on Thursday that they have reassigned forward Brett Sutter and goaltender John Curry to the Iowa Wild.
The move indicates that either Ryan Carter or Matt Cooke (possibly both) are on track to be available for Saturday’s game against the Predators, making Sutter an unnecessary roster addition. As we talked about earlier in the week, the return of Cooke will be big for the Wild.
The moves also indicate that the team expects Darcy Kuemper to be through the don’t-call-it-the-mumps stomach virus that kept him off the ice in both Tuesday and Wednesday’s games.
Sutter played on both Wednesday and Thursday, making his Wild debut in Wednesday’s game. In his time up he collected an assist, four shots, seven hits, four penalty minutes, and drew a penalty. He was very noticeable in both games, though he took a pretty dumb late penalty against the Bruins with the game tied.
Sutter has likely earned himself another shot up with the club at some point this season when the team is in need of a fourth line fill-in. Though when Cooke and Carter are both healthy that will give the team a surplus of players who could play on the fourth line and may have the team looking for a player from Iowa who can play up the lineup. It’d be easy to see a situation where Cooke is on the third line, but gets bumped down to the fourth and the team calls up a player like Tyler Graovac, Jordan Schroeder, or maybe even Michael Keranen to play on the third.
Curry did not play on Thursday following his call-up.
In other news:
We reported yesterday that the Iowa Wild had recalled Colton Jobke from the Alaska Aces. (That post had a ton of transactions in there for Iowa and Alaska, check it out to sort out all the moves that happened.)
Well, it turns out that the recall of Jobke won’t be to Iowa, but rather to Germany. The team has loaned Jobke to Augsburg. Haven’t seen anything indicating why the team has made the move and whether or not it has something to do with his development.
