Tyler Graovac and Brett Sutter Recalled by Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild has recalled forwards Tyler Graovac and Brett Sutter from the Iowa Wild in advance of Monday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.

The move is necessitated by Jason Zucker still being out with a stomach virus that is winding its way through the team and Mikael Granlund going down with an injury (presumably a wrist injury) in Saturday’s game against the Jets. Granlund exited the game following a big hit he took from Dustin Byfuglien.

This is Sutter’s second call-up of the season. He was a bulldozer in his first two-game stint with the Wild this season, adding an assist and drawing a penalty. (He also took a late penalty in a tight game that hurt the team.) Through 30 games with Iowa this year he has six goals and nine assists and ranks fourth on the team in points.

Tyler Graovac — who we’ve been talking about a lot around these parts — currently leads Iowa in points and goals with 12 goals and 24 points on the season. Six of those goals came on the power play. Graovac is a big forward at 6-foot-5, 206 pounds. He’s capable of playing physical in the corners and has a nice shot as well. He’s able to muck it up in front of the net and has decent speed as well. This is his first NHL call up and if he finds his way onto the ice Monday it will be his NHL debut.

He’s been on fire for Iowa recently. He not only leads the team in points, but a lot of his production has come since John Torchetti took over coaching duties in November. He has four goals in his last four games and is one of the few bright spots on the squad. If you want to know a little more about Graovac check out a bit I wrote about why he should get a call-up in early December and then an interview with him by Andrew McCormick that we published in early November.

The Wild also reassigned defenseman Justin Falk to the Iowa Wild today.
