Stephane Veilleux Reassigned To Iowa Wild

On Tuesday the Minnesota Wild reassigned forward Stephane Veilleux to the Iowa Wild of the AHL. This move came in advance of the flurry of trade activity for the Wild, including the acquisition of defenseman Jordan Leopold and winger Chris Stewart.

I only note when this was initiated because reports have Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher getting a call five minutes before 2pm from Sabres GM Tim Murray to make the Chris Stewart deal happen. If that’s the case, then it’s possible that there may have been intentions to eventually bring Veilleux back up and he would have needed to get down to the AHL on Monday because of the below rule.

After the acquisition of Chris Stewart and Sean Bergenheim it seems unlikely that Veilleux will get a call-up again either way. The team is stocked full of forwards with Jordan Schroeder being made a healthy scratch for Tuesday’s game against the Senators. In addition, the team expects to get both Ryan Carter and Matt Cooke back on the roster before the end of the season.

Iowa has a pretty slow period right now with only two games over a 14-day stretch. With only 17 games left in the season, we can hope that the team starts to get back on track and shows signs of putting together a formidable roster for next season. Their next game is a road tilt on Friday against the Calder Cup champion Texas Stars.
