Playoff Odds
The Minnesota Wild saw a .16% increase in their probability of making the playoffs yesterday, according to Hockeystats.ca. They got a little help from a regulation decision between the Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks, the Pittsburgh Penguins beating the Los Angeles Kings in overtime, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beating the Dallas Stars.

However, those gains were largely neutralized by a 6-1 St. Louis Blues win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, a Colorado Avalanche win over the Columbus Blue Jackets, and a Winnipeg Jets win over the Nashville Predators.
With the Wild just four points back of the Chicago Blackhawks, it has many fans putting Chicago on warning for third place. Others are worried about the implications of the Wild passing the Blackhawks, because it might lead to a first round match against the St. Louis Blues, a team the Wild haven’t played great against over the last couple of years.
However, it’s a little too early to watch match-ups, especially because yesterday’s Predators loss was their sixth straight loss. At this point, they’re only two points up on the Blues and the Blues have two games in hand.
The only game taking place today that can really benefit the Wild is an Ottawa Senators win over the Calgary Flames. A Blackhawks loss to the Rangers would also be nice, but isn’t a big factor in the Wild’s playoff odds.
Here’s a look at how the playoff probabilities in the Western Conference shake out as of Sunday morning.
Over the Eastern Conference, yesterday’s Maple Leafs’ loss has their playoff probability falling to 0%. Toronto is done. No one thought they’d make it, but there’s officially no hope now.
