The Minnesota Wild have recalled defenseman Christian Folin from the Iowa Wild, after reassigning him on Saturday to get in a game.

The reassignment allowed Folin, who has been scratched in five straight matches, a little game-situation ice time. Folin finished the 3-2 loss to the Chicago Wolves with a plus-1 rating and a single shot.

Folin hasn’t seen a ton of ice time in recent months, in part because of the acquisition of Jordan Leopold and the emergence of Matt Dumba as a fixture of the Wild blue line.

On Sunday, Folin was just one of a handful of new faces in the lineup for Iowa on Sunday afternoon. One of the new faces for 2014 7th round draft pick Pavel Jenys, who is playing with Iowa on an amateur tryout (ATO) and grabbed an assist in his first AHL game on Sunday. College free agent signings Grayson Downing and Minnesota State defenseman Zach Palmquist are both expected to join Iowa soon and partake in some of the final eight games remaining in Iowa’s season.

Back up at the NHL level, Folin isn’t necessarily expected to draw into the lineup regularly, especially considering reports from the Pioneer Press’ Chad Graff today that Nate Prosser is skating again.

However, it’s great news for the Wild, who, outside of the top four defensemen, have Matt Dumba playing excellent, Jordan Leopold playing decent and offering a left-handed solution for the left side of the third pairing, Prosser playing some of his best hockey of the year right before his injury, and Folin, who has been solid in difficult situations in 2015. That’s a better depth situation on defense than the Wild have experienced most of the year.
