Minnesota Wild prospect, Connor Dewar has come away from the Canada Russia Series looking good, notching two assists in two games for Team WHL.
Connor Dewar was drafted in the 3rd round (92nd overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild. He was the only prospect in the organisation to be called up for the Canada Russia Series.
His representative team, Team WHL have finished their two games with Team Russia in the CIBC Canada Russia Series. They came away with a win and a loss.
In notching an assist (one primary, one secondary) in both games and being named as an assistant captain for the Canada Russia Series, it’s safe to say that the Minnesota Wild could potentially have found a third round gem.
Not only is he able to create plays but he has the respect and discipline, not to mention leadership skills to be given a letter. That, and at age 19, he was one of the older players in the line-up.
Connor Dewar is producing at beyond point-per-game pace for the Everett Silvertips in the WHL this year, tallying 21 points in 13 games. He accounts for 23.5% of the team’s goals this year:
Should he continue at that sort of pace, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him moving into the professional ranks as early as next year. Whether that’s with the Iowa Wild or Minnesota Wild is a question we won’t bother asking just yet!
It’s always great to see a non-first round pick doing well for themselves, and regardless of the fact he’d be an older player in the WHL by now, it’s safe to say there’s a certain spark about Dewar.
Given he’ll be eventually joining a team that has a very much ageing core, that spark and youthful exuberance could prove a real difference-maker, especially if he can get anywhere near the same point totals.
The Canada Russia Series will continue over the coming days, with Team Russia facing Team OHL and Team QJMHL.
Connor Dewar being the Minnesota Wild’s only representative, these games really are only worth watching if you’re keen on seeing other team’s future or some potential 2019 draft picks.
