We dive into Jordan Greenway’s game and how he can be effective in the Minnesota Wild’s lineup consistently.

Among the young players on the Wild, it would seem one of the late bloomers out of the batch is 23-year old forward Jordan Greenway. Most famously known for his spot on the ‘GEEK’ line with teammates Joel Eriksson Ek and Luke Kunin, the rugged forward for the Wild is starting to come into his own in the NHL.

After making the jump to the NHL after his tenure with Boston University, Greenway showed promise and poise by demonstrating how hungry he was for the opportunity to play in the NHL and couldn’t have started any better. After tallying only 1 assist in 6 games in the 17-18 season, Greenway would find himself in the Minnesota Wild lineup come playoffs where unpredictably, he scored a beautiful goal against divisional rival Winnipeg Jets.

Greenway shows that he’s a hard worker on the ice, using his large, physical frame and positioning himself for the best opportunity he can get to help his team win. Most notably, former Wild Head Coach Bruce Boudreau formed what quickly became the ‘GEEK’ line symbolizing Greenway-Eriksson Ek-Kunin, a line in which was given heavy minutes due to their effectiveness to wear down opponents with their rugged style of play or be that the line chemistry was so great, they could score a goal when it mattered most. Greenway has been there even in the most unconventional of times like this goal he set up while being laid out by Edmonton forward Josh Archibald.

And of course, we can’t back down from knowing that Greenway has a big body and besides putting it to use by being the rugged forward he is, he also seems to have a positive side for stepping up for his teammates as this fight versus Edmonton’s Darnell Nurse will show, he stepped right in for Kunin.

Not saying that Kunin couldn’t handle himself but Greenway versus Nurse looks a lot better and as we’ve all seen by now, Greenway got the better of Nurse in that scrap and there’s the aspect that he will scrap with a smile on his face.

Greenway has a very solid effect with just his size alone he’s 6’6″ 225 lbs and strength is not an issue with the young forward as he will fight off opposing defenseman in the offensive zone just like what we see on this goal versus Vegas.

Also, the topic of several trade rumors, understandably so with the above-mentioned topics on why Greenway would be such an essential piece on the right team, one comparison that can be tossed out there is to a young Dustin Byfuglien as Byfuglien had several of the same traits we see in Greenway and turned that into success winning a Stanley Cup in 2010 with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Hopefully, after the above traits brought to life, fans in the State Of Hockey will see how essential Jordan Greenway is to the Minnesota Wild.
