Minnesota Wild: Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase set for TRIA Rink this week

Minnesota Wild first-round draft pick Carson Lambos is among the players on the roster for the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase that will be held with the Chicago Blackhawks  this week  at the TRIA Rink in downtown St. Paul .

The eventm which was announced on Monday, will consist of Wild practices on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday with games against the Blackhawks on Friday night and Sunday afternoon.

The event is named in honor of Kurvers, the Wild’s former assistant general manager who died on June 21 from cancer. He was 58.

The  practices are free and open to the public, but the two scimmages are just open for Wild season ticket holders to watch live. However both scrimmages will be streamed on the Wild’s You Tube page.

TRIA Rink will open 30 minutes before the start of each Wild practice and scrimmage. Those attending are asked to wear a face mask inside the rink.

Lambos, a defenseman from Winnipeg, Manitoba, was selected 25th overall by the Wild in their second of their two first-round draft picks. Center Caedan Bankier and  defenseman Kyle Masters, who were selected in the third- and fourth round this year, respectively,  is also among the prospects invited to this week’s event.

A total of 26 players are on the Wild’s roster for the practices and scrimmages.  The group also includes first-rounders Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi, who were selected in 2019 and ’20, respectively. The Showcase is being held a week before the NHL training camps open.  Minnesota kicks off its six-game preseason schedule on Sept. 25 at St. Louis, the team it faces in the Winter Classic.

The Wild then travel to Colorado before three home games against the Avalanche on Oct. 4 and the Blues and Blackhawks on Oct. 6 and 7, respectively.

The preseason ends Oct. 9 at Chicago.

Minnesota opens the regular season on Oct. 15 at Anaheim.
