Minnesota Wild: Could Marco Rossi AND Matt Boldy Be Recalled?
It is certainly trying times for the Minnesota Wild right now. Coming off of a 6-4 loss in the Winter Classic Saturday evening, the Wild are looking to regroup for when the team plays the Boston Bruins on Thursday. That goes without saying that there is some bumps in the road to come before that game and that is coming down to who will actually play.
At Monday’s practice, it was discovered that Jordan Greenway had been absent and that was speculated to be because of injury. The Wild later reported that the team had placed him on the NHL’s COVID-19 Protocol. That makes two current Minnesota players in protocol with defenseman Jonas Brodin already being there.
Michael Russo of TheAthletic tweeted out that Head Coach Dean Evason had hinted at the idea that the Wild were on the verge of not just calling up one but both Marco Rossi and Matt Boldy to Minnesota’s ailing team which seems to be getting slowly picked apart by injuries and COVID issues. Dean Evason had this to say when asked about the team potentially recalling Boldy/Rossi.
“Why do you ask me questions that you probably know is going to happen? I can’t tell you because I’m not sure it’s going to happen, but you are on the right track.”
Currently as it sits, Rossi and Boldy are both lighting it up for the Iowa Wild. Matt Boldy is currently sitting at 10 points in 10 games with Iowa scoring 1 goal and 3 assists in his last 5. Marco Rossi is an intriguing option as well as he currently leads the Iowa Wild with 23 points in 21 games with 7 of those coming in his last 5 games. This post will be updated in accordance with whatever moves the Wild make.
Speaking of other roster transactions, The Wild announced that the team had recalled goaltender Andrew Hammond from the Iowa Wild and placed him onto the teams taxi squad.
Hammond is 6-3-1 with Iowa this season with a 2.09 Goals Against Average and .919 Save Percentage. This move effectively means there is no good news in regards to Cam Talbot’s lower body injury and as Michael Russo reported, Talbot won’t play Thursday in Boston.
