That was more like it.

The Minnesota Wild demonstrated on Tuesday against the New York Rangers why they have been considered one of the  top teams in the NHL for the majority of the season, outside of the past few weeks.

Now the question is, can the Wild build off it?

Minnesota beat the Rangers for just its third win in the past 11 games and on Thursday against Detroit, the Wild will attempt to get consecutive victories for the first time since Feb. 12 and 14.

“We’ve got to back it up,” Wild coach Dean Evason said in his postgame media availability session on Tuesday. “We’ve got to play the exact same way now, consistently and just have that same effort. Just because we had some success here (Tuesday) doesn’t mean it’s going to continue. It’s got to continue because of how we play, how we prepare and what we do when the puck is dropped in our next game in Detroit. There’s no easy games going forward . Hopefully we caught something and we can go forward.”

Minnesota won the first matchup with Detroit this season — 7-4 on Feb. 14 in the Xcel Energy Center. and the Wild have earned a point in six of their last eight games in Detroit. Minnesota is 10-18-3 all-time in Detroit in the series history.

The contest is the start of back-to-back road games for the Wild, who travel to Carolina on Friday night.

Detroit, which sits in fifth place in the Atlantic Division, has lost three straight games and allowed 15 goals in the last two. That includes a 9-2 loss on Tuesday against Arizona.
