With two power plays in the first period, you would think that the Minnesota Wild’s first goal of the season would come off of the stick of Kirill Kaprizov or Matt Boldy. Unfortunately, the special teams for the Wild was a little discombobulated early on and they failed to cash in with the extra skater. No worries, Ryan Hartman was on the case.
That’s right, the Minnesota Wild’s first goal of the season came from their third line, and more importantly it came at 5v5.

Credit to Marcus Johansson for getting the play started and finding Hartman as he entered the zone. The pass is off just a little but he makes a nice little chip play to himself to get around Dylan Holloway. Hartman then tries to toe-drag around Logan Mailloux. The rookie gets a stick on the puck as he sprawls to the ice, but deflects it back to Hartman who puts it past Jordan Binnington to open the Wild’s scoring season.
Hartman had a somewhat disappointing season last year as his goal production dropped from 21 in 2023-24 to just 11. If he can find his goal scoring touch again it will take the pressure off of the top-six to provide all of the offense.
The goal did seem to spark the Wild’s offense as less than two minutes later the top line connected on a pretty passing play that ended with Matt Boldy tipping home a pass from Kirill Kaprizov to make it 2-0.
