History is on the line in Dallas on Monday as the Minnesota Wild have the chance to do something that’s never happened before. If the Wild can pull off another win, it would mark the first time the team has owned a 2-0 series lead in the playoffs.

If what happened on Saturday was any indication, the Wild are well equipped to do that and more.

Minnesota dominated Dallas, destroying the Stars in a 6-1 victory that served as exactly the sort of tone-setting victory the team needed. As exhilarating as that win was, it’s only one game and there’s a pretty decent chance we have six more of them ahead of us.

Of course, making a little history will go a long way in perhaps shortening what many still believe will be the best series of the opening round.

After getting an afternoon puck drop over the weekend, the Wild are back to the late slot that fans were afraid the team would get penciled into. It’s easier to understand this in years past, but this season both Wild and Stars fans find themselves as unlikely allies in a war against how lame hockey’s playoff setup is.

Not only are two of the top three teams in the Western Conference meeting in the first-round, but they’ve been given a late time slot despite both being located in the Central Time Zone.

It’s an unlucky draw, but it’s where the two factions split. Dallas fans are furious with some of the physicality that happened on Saturday, which helped muscle Minnesota to a margin of victory that outside the realm of expectation for this series. Everything was firing for the Wild, especially the goaltending of rookie Jesper Wallstedt who allowed just one goal on 28 shots.

Dallas got punched in the mouth and embarrassed in Game 1, which means they’re going to be coming even heavier to Monday night’s game. The first game of the series was a massive weight off the shoulders of Wild fans but what happens tonight will let us know what sort of series we’re in for the rest of the way.
