The Minnesota Wild and their fans are focused on their current playoff run, where they are one win over the Dallas Stars away from reaching the second round. It would be their first playoff series win since 2015, where they defeated the St. Louis Blues in six games. This is a team that general manager Bill Guerin built into what he hoped was a Stanley Cup contender.
At the trade deadline, the Wild were looking to land a big fish, but were unable to agree to terms on anything substantial. There is always the offseason for the team to add a star, possibly one with Team USA links to Guerin. Well, one can officially be taken off the board.
While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk confirmed his commitment to the team and that the trade speculation surrounding him has become a distraction.
Wild can cross off Brady Tkachuk from potential wishlist as star confirms commitment to Senators
"I feel like I've answered this hundreds of times. I feel like I've never shown, I've never said, none of those things ever came out of my mouth, and quite honestly it's just getting frustrating. It's becoming a distraction because I have been fully committed to this team, to the city, and it's just becoming a distraction," said Tkachuk.

Tkachuk has been the subject of trade rumors for quite some time due in part to what has been a tumultuous season in Ottawa. The star's status with the team has been under question, whether it was due to the team's struggles earlier in the season, or his father Keith's comments about Tkachuk's lack of playing time or his criticism of Linus Ullmark not playing back-to-back games. Then there was Ottawa's short playoff run, where they were swept in the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes. Tkachuk went all four games without recording a goal or an assist.
While Guerin didn't land the big forward he was hoping for at the trade deadline, there was always the offseason. Perhaps there was a chance like Tkachuk or Auston Matthews could hit the open market. But Tkachuk is committed to the Senators, while Matthews is non-committal towards his future with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Still, the likelihood of the Wild landing either one of them are slim. Let's not forget that the Wild have already given up a fortune of young players for Quinn Hughes, so their farm system is not as stocked as before.
Regardless of how this season goes, the Wild could be a team to follow this summer. However, Wild fans can rule out a trade for Tkachuk, who is committed to remaining with the Senators.
