The Iowa Wild have reassigned forward Curt Gogol to the Alaska Aces of the ECHL.

Gogol has posted just one goal, one assist, and 123 penalty minutes in 25 games this season for Iowa.

The 23-year-old winger was acquired mid-season last year in a trade with the Worcester Sharks, sending veteran forward Chad Rau to the San Jose Sharks organization.

Gogol has 172 games of AHL experience with 15 goals and 10 assists in his AHL career.

Though the trade with Rau made sense, especially considering Rau’s decreased production and age. Minnesotans seemed disproportionately upset about the move, likely because Rau is a Minnesotan. He’s also the older brother of University of Minnesota Golden Gophers standout and Florida Panthers draft pick Kyle Rau.

For his part of the move, Rau was not re-signed by the Sharks organization and has moved on to play for SaiPa in the Liiga (Finland). He joins former fellow Wild prospect and upper midwesterner Sam Lofquist (Somerset, WI) on that team.

The Alaska Aces are wrapping up a long road trip and will return to action following the ECHL All-Star break on January 23, kicking off a nine-game homestand in Anchorage.
