Iowa Wild Sign Nicholas Rioux

The Iowa Wild have signed defenseman Nicholas Rioux to a professional tryout.

This is Rioux’s third PTO with the Wild this season. He’s played five total games with Iowa, through which he’s taken four shots, has a plus-1 rating, and no points.

He’s spent the rest of the season playing with the Quad City Mallards in the ECHL. He’s played 53 games for the Mallards, scoring three goals and 19 assists with a plus-10 rating and 103 shots.

The signing of Rioux comes the day after the Wild released veteran defenseman Danny Syvret from his PTO. Syvret went through a series of PTOs over the season and departs the team as the defender who has played the most games this season. (He’s also the owner of the team’s worst plus/minus rating this year.)

Rioux could be back in the Wild lineup as soon as Sunday when they take on Utica in Des Moines.
